Don't Just Frame Your Art or Photos... Coat, Seal, and Protect them forever
August 22, 2022Watch how we can preserve our most treasured photos using Super Gloss Epoxy Resin.
Thank you, Sheniece of @shenpop_art, who shows us how she coated a treasured photo.
Please prepare the following:
- Your favorite framed canvas art
- Super Gloss epoxy
- Black Diamond pigments
- Heat gun
- Mixing cups, gloves, and wooden mixing stick
- Consider having a large clean box or container to cover and protect the art during the cure process to prevent bugs/dust getting into the art.
Step 1:
Super Gloss Epoxy resin is a 1:1 ratio epoxy resin. Therfore, we combine equal parts of part A and part B here.
Slowly stir and scrape the mixing cup's bottom and side for approximately 3-5 minutes. Then we should be ready to move to the next step.
Step 2:
We start by coating the backside of the canvas art first. Pour the mixed batch evenly, and apply it as a seal coat. This helps make the canvas art stronger and long lasting.
Step 3:
Let it cure for 24 hours at 75F.
Step 4:
Now the backside is cured, we repeat the same process to the front side of the canvas art. Referring back to step 1, we will mix another batch of Super Gloss epoxy resin. Pour evenly over the art as a seal coat.
Step 5:
Let it cure for 24 hours at 75F.
***Note, keep an eye out for pesky microbubbles. We can use a small hand torch to release them. Waive the heat source approximately 6-12" near the bubbles, and they should disappear.
Hope this helps inspire you!
